On the Watertown Seal is a picture of an English Colonist and an Indian exchanging, as peace tokens,  bread for fish.  Captain Roger Clap landed at Nantasket Point in 1630 and rode up Charles River to Gerry's Landing with the first party of Watertown Colonists.

The mission of the Watertown Recreation Department and the John A. Ryan Arena to provide the citizens of the Town with varied and comprehensive passive and active recreational, leisure and seasonal opportunities for a wide range of age group and abilities. We will work with and/or assist any town agencies and citizens to improve any facility and/or activity that will benefit the residents of Watertown.

The department will also work with these groups to improve the recreational facilities in Watertown.
