On the Watertown Seal is a picture of an English Colonist and an Indian exchanging, as peace tokens,  bread for fish.  Captain Roger Clap landed at Nantasket Point in 1630 and rode up Charles River to Gerry's Landing with the first party of Watertown Colonists.

The John A. Ryan Skating Arena is a NHL-size skating rink owned and operated by the Town of Watertown featuring many amenities including:

  • Warm Viewing Room
  • Heated Stands
  • Skate Shop with rentals
  • Consession Stand
  • Vending
  • Eight changing rooms
  • Hot showers
  • Skate changing area

    Reservation Rates

    The arena is available for private rentals for 60 and 50 minute blocks of time. The rates vary due to date, time, and ice usage. Generally, the rink can be reserved for $215 for a 60 minute block or $200 for a 50 minute block.

    Demand for ice time is greatest from December through March; reserve dates should be booked well in advance. The most available times for private rental groups tend to be in the early fall, late spring, and some holidays. Contact:

    All renters must be e-mailed to Dan Brothers prior to being considered for rentals. Please include:
    1) Name & Number
    2) Usage of the Arena
    3) Flexability on Days and Times

    In the event that you arrive before your scheduled time and find that the rink is closed, please be patient. The rink will be opened 30 minutes before your scheduled time.
