Library Announces Lineup for Free Winter Concert Series

The Watertown Free Public Library’s Winter Concert Series kicks off on Sunday, December 8th. This year, the library has booked an eclectic lineup featuring a string trio, a banjo virtuoso, a singer/songwriter, and a local swing and blues band. Concerts are free and open to all. Let the music begin!

The Craft Ensemble | Sunday, December 8 at 2 PM | We’re kicking off the series with a wonderful string trio featuring members of the Craft Ensemble (two violinists and a violist). Their program will center around Antonín Dvořák’s Terzetto. In addition the trio will perform the works of a contemporary local female composer as well selected works by Henry Purcell.

Michael Nix, New Classic Banjo Project | Sunday, January 12 at 2 PM | Banjo innovator, Michael Nix designed the Banjar; a modern seven string banjo combining elements of the five-string banjo and classical guitar; bringing the classic finger-style banjo of the late 1800's into the twenty first century. He initiated the New Classic Banjo project to commission, record, and perform new works for the classic finger-style banjo.

Lainey Dionne | Sunday, February 9 at 2 PM | Lainey Dionne is a Rhode Island based singer/songwriter and cover artist. Her debut record, Can't Refuse - EP, is described as "sort of music that will make you forget about everything else and just listen" (Verge Media). Lainey has been nominated and has won numerous awards for her songwriting including The New England Songwriting Competition, The International Songwriting Competition, RI’s Race to the Stage Competition, The WMA’s, and the Motif Awards.

Melvin JG | Sunday, March 8 at 2 PM | Closing out our Winter Concert Series we have Melvin JG, a group of local musicians featuring guitar, vocals, harmonica and accordion. They primarily play originals representing a number of different genres. Their eclectic style of music ranges from classical to country and blues and swing.

Free winter concerts are sponsored by the Library Building Committee.
