Dr. Kady Goldlist of the Quimby Center for Geriatric Care at Mount Auburn Hospital will review both Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease with important information on early signs and diagnosis, and will answer your questions about prevention, memory loss, and how to support your loved one. Call the Senior Center at (617) 972-6490 to register for the special Zoom link.
Senior Shuttle Bus
The Watertown Senior Shuttle Bus is back on the road for grocery shopping. Due to COVID-19, the bus is limited to 8 riders plus the driver. Masks must be worn. Rides are door-to-door and are now scheduled by appointment only. Call the Senior Center at (617) 972-6490 for more information and to schedule your ride. Suggested donation is $2.00 roundtrip paid to the driver. Trips to Stop and Shop/CVS/Watertown Savings Bank, Market Basket, Marshalls, Roche Brothers, Target and Hannaford are on the schedule.
New Transportation Provider
Springwell, our local Area Agency on Aging, recently received a large grant to help seniors in Watertown and surrounding communities get where they need to go! The service is free of charge for seniors, age 60 and older, and the service will provide rides locally and to Boston and beyond for errands, medical appointments, and social engagements. Rides are scheduled by calling Alternative Transportation directly at (857) 364-6570. They will register each person who seeks the service, and arrange both pickup and return.
June programs continue to be offered on Zoom including Exercise classes, LGBTQ Roundtable, Pet Lovers Group, Knitting Group, Zoom Book Club, museum tours and other informative programs. Due to limited parking in the Phillips parking lot while school is still in session, we will be evaluating how best to bring programs back in the afternoons this summer when parking becomes more available. In the meantime, masks are highly recommended for all people regardless of vaccination status visiting the Senior Center or participating in a grab-n-go event. Masks are required when riding the Senior Shuttle Bus or visiting the Food Pantry.
Senior Parking Permits
Please check to make sure that your Senior Parking Permit is still up-to-date, and call the Senior Center at (617) 972-6490 to renew by phone. For new permits: please call the Senior Center to make an appointment for a new permit and bring your ID, Car Registration and Fee. You must be at least 65 years old and live in Watertown with the automobile registered in your name. The cost is $3 for a 2-year permit.
